Guide to gaining Admission to UNILAG DLC/DLI

In case you don’t know, UNILAG is one of those universities that run distance learning degree programmes. The Institute primary objectives include:
  1. To provide access to University education for desiring learners
  2. To collaborate with other Open and Distance Learning Institutions for mutual benefit and best practices
  3. To provide robust staff training and development programme for optimal performance
  4. To provide blended learning platform for knowledge creation and acquisition
  5. To provide demand-driven programmes through Distance Learning for global opportunities
  6. To make the needs of learners central in service delivery.

Now, why do you need Distance learning?

UNILAG distance learning degree can be the right education channel for working class people. If you already have required O’level subjects as will be detailed below, you can apply for this course without necessarily fighting for admission through JAMB UTME. Graduates of Bsc, HND, NCE or ND of any institution; wishing to further their courses or related ones at UNILAG can also take advantage of the distance learning degree.

It’s important to know that applicants can apply to start the programmes from YEAR ONE or YEAR TWO depending on your background qualifications. For year one applications, all you need is required O'level subjects for your proposed course.


UNILAG DLC Qualifications for Entry into Year Two

  1. Two A/Level passes in proposed subjects of study(Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) plus the WASSCE/GCE/SSCE/NECO (O’ Level)or its Equivalent with credit in five subjects in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and any other science subject (For Education Mathematics at least a pass in Further Mathematics is Compulsory)
  2. National Certificate in Education (NCE) obtained from the former College of Education, University of Lagos, in the Science subjects to be offered, or from any College of Education recognised by the Senate of the University of Lagos with Credit/Merit (in proposed subject of study) and any other Science subject

  1. B.Sc. IN ACCOUNTING
  2. B.Sc. IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
  3. B.Sc. IN ECONOMICS
  4. B.Sc. IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
  5. B.Sc. IN EDUCATION SCIENCE
              (a) B.Sc.  Education Biology
              (b) B.Sc.  Education Chemistry
              (c) B.Sc. Education Mathematics
              (d) B.Sc. Education Physics

UNILAG DLC/DLI Entry Qualifications

B.Sc. Accounting and B.Sc. Business Administration

The following candidates are eligible to apply:
  1. Graduates of University of Lagos or any other university recognized by Senate (only candidates with good honours degrees in relevant disciplines will be considered for admission at enhanced entry level).
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or National Diploma (ND) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) in the relevant disciplines. For this category, please note that only holders of HND with at least Upper Credit will be eligible for admissions at enhanced entry level.
  3. Holders of recognized relevant full professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, ACMA, ACIA, ACIS, ACIB, CII, may be considered for admission at enhanced level provided they have five credits at WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent, which must  include English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other two subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.
  4. Holders of WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent with credits in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other two subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.
NOTE: Point of entry for candidates in categories a, b and c will depend on details of their Transcripts and such candidates must also satisfy the WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent as stated in (d) above.

B.Sc. Economics

Qualifications for Entry into Year One
WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent with 5 credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other two (2)subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.

B.Sc. Public Administration

Qualifications for Entry into Year One
WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent with 5 credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Government plus any other two (2) subjects at not more than two(2) sittings.

B.Sc. Education Science Programme

Qualifications for Entry into Year One
Applicants must have relevant professional experience, plus any ONE of the following three qualifications:
  1. WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent with credits in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics and at least two other science subjects; at not more than two (2) sittings from the following:
  • B.Sc. Education Biology - Biology, Chemistry and one other Science subject of Physics or Agricultural Science.
  • B.Sc. Education Chemistry: Chemistry and any two of Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science or any other Science subject.
  • B.Sc.  Education Mathematics: Mathematics and Physics and one other Science subjects of Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science or any other Science subject including at least a pass in Further Mathematics.
  • B.Sc. Education Physics
  • Physics and Chemistry and one other Science subject of Biology, Agricultural Science or any other science subject.
  1. Teacher's Grade II Certificate (TCII) with at least Merit in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and at least two other science subjects at the TCII/WASSCE/SSCE/NECO/GCE (Ordinary Level) or its equivalent.
  2. Any other qualification that may be considered equivalent to (a) and (b) above, by the University Senate.

UNILAG DLC/DLI General Application Information

  1. Applicants for Distance Learning Institute programme shall not be less than 21 years of age by 31st December, 2017 i.e. applicants whose date of birth were on or before 31st December, 1996
  2. Offer of admission to programmes listed above is subject to viable number of qualified applicants.
  3. On-line Print Out Results Slips will not be honoured at the point of registration.
  4. Candidates awaiting results are not eligible to apply.
  5. Certificates and not Statement of Result Slips are acceptable for WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO results obtained before 2015.
  6. All completed application forms are to be submitted on or before 31st July, 2018.
  7. Candidates should be on the lookout for the date and details of a selection test/screening.

Ready to apply for UNILAG DLC/DLI Programmes

PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION

Step 1:  Visit the Unilag application portal
Step 2:  Click “Start a Fresh Application”
Step 3:  Select Distance Learning Institute as application Type, then provide your Surname, First name, Middle name, mobile number and email address.
Step 4:   Click the pay now to pay the application fee of N17,500 (Seventeen Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) only: online or print the payment advice to make payment at any Commercial Bank.           
Step 5:  Return to the application portal (http://applications.unilag.edu.ng)after payment, click continue application, provide your payment reference number and your surname in lowercase as password.
Step 6:  Complete the application form and submit online and print a copy. (Applicant is also given the opportunity to save Application Form and later complete the Form in case certain information are not readily available).

Mount Kenya University (MKU) will start a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree; Accepting  Diploma in Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Technology Mount Kenya University (MKU) will start a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree for students progressing from Diploma in Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Technology following the approval of its plan by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

The progression study will be known as Bachelor of Pharmacy (Diploma Entry) Programme.

The PPB, in approving the MKU implementation plan for the programme in January, indicated that the arrangement was in tandem with its credit waiver policy guidelines for progression from diploma in pharmacy or pharmaceutical technology to bachelor of pharmacy degree.

After Npower physical verification, What Next?

This is the question several preselected applicants in the 2017 round of Npower scheme had been asking on the body’s official twitter handle. The preselected 2016 N-build applicants are equally concerned about what the next course of action is.
N-power has initially made it clear that not all the 300,000 applicants shortlisted will be eventually selected for the jobs. Some applicants will be disqualified because of certain irregularities including; over-age, lack of claimed qualifications/credentials and the likes. And the support team has promised applicants on the waiting list to be ready as replacement for such disqualified applicants.
