How to Gain Admission to Osun State University – Step by Step Guide to Successful Admission

Guide to Gaining Admission to UNIOSUN without Problems

It’s time to process another admission and this time you want to consider the state owned university. You must know that gaining admission to this school is not a joke. You have to know everything possible and all necessary things to put in place to have stress-free admission experience.

The post below will show you the secrets to a successful admission experience to the university. You will learn about how the school conducts her yearly admission exercise so that you won’t miss the train.

As usual, I will cover the following areas in this post:
  • SSCE requirements for their Admission
  • JAMB UTME requirements and procedures
  • How they conduct their Post UTME
  • Direct Entry admission processes
  • How they release their admission lists and modalities

You may equally want to know:
  • How the school treats their pre-degree and IJMB candidates for admission
  • How they distribute their admission spaces

Let’s get to work.

UNIOSUN Requires Excellent SSCE Results for their Admission

For some years now, this university was not conducting Post UTME tests for their admission seekers. The main modality is using the O’level results plus UTME mark to offer admission.

In that case, a great set of SSCE results will set you apart and broadens your admission chance (I will cover this in detail shortly)

You will need at least 5 credit passes (in not more than two sittings) in your SSCE results for their admission. UNIOSUN accepts WAEC, NECO, NABTEB results for her admission. They even accept any form of combination for O’level results. By this, I mean, you can combine your O’level results in any of the following formats:
  • WAEC (or GCE) plus NECO (or GCE)
  • WAEC Internal plus WAEC GCE (Private)
  • NECO Internal plus NECO GCE (Private)
  • WAEC (or GCE) Plus NABTEB (or GCE)
  • NECO (or GCE) Plus NABTEB (or GCE)

Do you know, not all schools accept such mixing?

You will need to visit JAMB brochure for specific course's SSCE requirements. When you check your brochure UNIOSUN may accept general O’level requirements for some courses (like other universities do). They may also have special consideration specific to them. This is why it’s IMPORTANT you study you brochure before anything. I cover what to look for in brochure in this post “Visit, Study and Understand JAMB brochure."

UNIOSUN UTME requirements and procedures

First, you must choose them in UTME. It’s in old time they accepted applicants who didn’t choose them in UTME. Today, even if you choose them in JAMB you will have to do things right before you can stand a chance.

You don’t only choose them in UTME, you must consider them as your first choice. Don’t be deceived by your brother’s or sister’s advice that, since UNIOSUN is a state university they must accept second choice applicants.

Here is the secret. They have not been able to admit all their first choice applicants (who merit their admission). Why will they want to go to second choice candidates in the first place?

Post UTME Screening Instead of Post UTME Test

While some other universities insist on conducting entrance exams for their applicants, UNIOSUN will only use your SSCE results and UTME score to give admission.

However, the school draws different cut off marks for different courses. While they accept 180 and/or above for their Art and Humanity, Education and Agric courses, they insist 200 and above for sciences, management and law. You can see their previous Post UTME adverts to judge yourself. Scroll through that page to see the information you’re looking for.

Hence, if you think you deserve a very competitive course, give them a very convincing UTME score.

Your SSCE Grades Are Better Superb

You see, when a school doesn’t conduct Post UTME test, what they do instead is called admission screening. By admission screening, it means they will rate you by your performance in UTME and SSCE results. So if you seek good course, produce some distinctions in 5 relevant subjects to your proposed course if you want to have higher edge. By distinctions, I mean As and Bs. Credits are good but not the best for very competitive courses like Nursing, Law, Account, Business Admin, Economics etc.

How UNIOSUN conduct Post UTME – Theirs is Admission Screening

Admission Screening Can Hold with or without Your Presence

Sometimes, the school may conduct the physical screening of your results and credentials on campus while you’re present. This happened 2016.

They can also ask you to - just fill the form on their website supplying your UTME score and SSCE grades. Here, you won’t have to be present on the campus for screening. This happened 2017.

They may also ask you to scan and upload your results (to their website) for checking without you being on campus.

UNIOSUN Direct Entry admission processes

As a direct entry applicant, the following is applicable to you:
  1. You must be a graduate of Bsc, HND, ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB etc
  2. You must focus on applying for your previous course or related one
  3. ND holders must have at least upper credits. HND and Bsc holders can be considered for admission with Lower credit or 2nd class upper (visit the school admission office for further details if you fall to this category). You can also check the JAMB brochure – especially under “special consideration (waiver) remarks” section for such explanation.
  4. You will first obtain JAMB Direct entry form. The form usually comes out the same time UTME applicants are registering.
  5. You must choose UNIOSUN as your first choice institution.
  6. You must also fill their post UTME screening form online when it starts – just like UTME applicants.
  7. You will need to send your academic transcripts to the admission office before the end of the post DE screening. IT IS IMPORTANT.

How UNIOSUN release admission lists and modalities Followed

After the screening, the school releases your results on their portal for you to check your score. The total score is 100. They usually give admission to applicants with 40 and above. But you will be more considered if you can score 50 and above.

From experience, the school can release up to four admission lists every admission year. These lists are usually tagged 1st, 2nd, 3rd and supplementary. Hence, you don’t have to panic if they take a purse after the first list. Others are coming.

Please note that, the school can give you another course instead of the one you earlier applied for. This happens if you don’t meet up with your original proposed course.

How UNIOSUN Gives Admission to Her Predegree, IJMB and JUPEB Students

The school runs both predegree, IJMB and JUPEB. After completion of one-year predegree course, you’ll be given admission to 100 level of your proposed course. Completing your IJMB or JUPEB will give you chance to apply for their direct entry form. You will then be given admission to 200 level.

UNIOSUN, like any other schools, gives preference to their predegree and IJMB/JUPEB students. However, a predegree students must write UTME and score 180 and above. He will later take part in the post UTME admission screening like others before he can be given admission.

IJMB candidates share the same fate with predegree students. You must have got the right point at your final exams before you can qualify for JAMB direct entry form and UNIOSUN admission.

From experience, hardly would you have any of the the school’s predegree and IJMB/JUPEB students denied admission. You’re your school’s favourite.

N-power has initially made it clear that not all the 300,000 applicants shortlisted will be eventually selected for the jobs. And the support team has promised applicants on the waiting list to be ready as replacement for such disqualified applicants.

Meanwhile, the support team has said the verified applicants to wait for the “next communication” or update from them and avoid reading from unofficial sources.
It should be noted that the physical verification which was initially slated to end December 14, has been extended until further notice. Hence, pre-selected candidates can still visit thei…
