Guide to Gaining Admission to Nigerian Police Academy (POLAC)
This post will guide you on how to apply, process and gain admission to the Nigerian Police Academy.
In case you don’t know what Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) is, they are better called ‘the University of the Nigeria Police”. Just as the Nigerian Defence Academy is for the Nigerian Army, POLAC is for the police.
Admission seekers are now considering the school just as all other conventional universities you know. The school is really students friendly as more and more people are being given admission on merit.
One of my candidates recently called to say thank you. And when I asked how made it, he was quick to let me know he knew nobody. He got his admission on merit. This doesn’t mean people are not using influence to gain admission to this school, yet some admitted students can testify they tried their luck and it worked for them.

Some background of the Nigerian Police Academy
The origin of the Nigeria Police Academy dates back to the early 80s when the Government of Nigeria in 1981 requested the British Government to make available to Nigeria, some United Kingdom Police officers to assess the training needs of the Nigeria Police.
In response to this request, a team of three British Police officers led by M.A. H Pacy (Assistant Chief Constable, Hamberside Police) was sent to Nigeria by the British Government. The team submitted its report known as the pacy report in 1982. This report was formally published as the white paper of the Federal Republic, of Nigeria, on the future training needs of the Nigeria Police Force. A follow up of recommendations of the pacy report led to the search for the best training orientation for the Nigeria Police.
In the year 2012, the Federal Government of Nigeria upgraded the Nigeria Police Academy Wudil- Kano State, to a degree – awarding institution and the National Universities commission, accordingly, recognized the Academy as the thirty seven (37th) Federal University and the one hundred and twenty fourth ( 124th) University in Nigeria. Academy activities commenced in September, 2012.

What it Takes to Gain Admission to Nigerian Police Academy
It takes four things to be admitted to POLAC. These are:
- Correct SSCE results and grades
- Writing of JAMB UTME and score 180 or above
- Registering on their admission application portal
- Partaking in their entrance exams and interview
- Meeting up with some general requirements
Let’s look into this one by one
Having the Relevant O’level (SSCE) Results
Your SSCE result can be WAEC, NECO, NABTEB etc. They accept all and two sittings of each or two. You must have at least 6 credit passes in the relevant subjects for your proposed course. By this, you must have 5 credit passes in relevant subject and 1 credit pass in any other.
To know what will be required of you in SSCE results, you may need to check JAMB brochure. The school is already incorporated in the JAMB brochure and you can see that live online.
You can see their available courses on the post, "Nigerian Police Academy - Apply for the 6th Regular Degree Admission". Then go to brochure to see the SSCE requirements for each of them. Please, don’t assume SSCE subject requirements – be sure.
It is important to know that the school only accepts SSCE results from 2014 till date.

Write JAMB UTME and score 180 or above
POLAC usually abides by the national cut-off mark as may be declared by JAMB. Yet, I doubt if the school will accept anything less than 180 even if JAMB declares such. Hence, you must score a mark greater than or equal to 180 before you can participate in their entrance exams which usually follow their online application.
Register for their online form.
Application to Nigerian Police Academy is done online and payment is made through Remita. You can read my details of POLAC application for better understanding.
You should note that, it’s NOT compulsory that you choose them in your UTME before you can apply for their form (at least for now). By this I mean, you don’t necessarily choose them as first or second choice before you can be considered for admission.
All they want is for you to write UTME and score the cut-off mark they want. If you’re eventually given admission, they will then instruct you to go and change to them on the JAMB portal.
