How to do JAMB Change of Names, Date of Birth, Subjects Combination, Institutions/Courses, State/LGA, Sex etc

Guide to to JAMB Change of Names, Date of Birth, Subjects Combination, Institutions/Courses, State/LGA, Sex etc

Did you make some mistakes in your JAMB UTME registration? Do you know a friend who was a victim to errors in the UTME registration? This is the news you have been waiting for.

JAMB has commenced change of data exercise for the 2018 UTME and it's not going to close untill further notice. I will be sure to update this post or post the closing date date as soon as it's officially made known.

All candidates with mistakes of any kind can now alter things. This correction is not FREE and can only be done after paying the required fee of N2500 for every correction through JAMB portal (using ATM Card on Remita Platform). You may not worry about using your personal or parent's ATM card, as most cafes will provide the service for you using their own cards.

Corrections You Can Make

You can perform corrections for the following data group (visit the nearest CBT Centre or cafe for corrections.). Note also the number of times you make each alternation. IT IS IMPORTANT.
1. Names Correction (Correction can only be done once). Not yet allowed as at the time of this post. Wait for my update
2. Passport Photograph Correction (Correction can only be done once). Not yet allowed as at the time of this post. Wait for my update
3. Gender Correction (Correction can only be done once). Now available and can be done at cafe.
4. UTME Subjects Correction (Correction can only be done once). Only releveant before writing UTME and can only be done at the CBT centre.
5. State/LGA Correction (Correction can only be done once). Now available and can be done at cafe
6. Profile Correction (Correction can only be done once). You may need to go back to CBT centre for this.
7. Choice of Institution/Course Correction (Correction can only be done twice with separate payments). Now available and can be done at cafe.

Please note that all the changes can only be made ONCE except the change of Institution/Course; that can be done only twice. You should therefore be very careful in your decision in making any change.

Takes on JAMB Change of Data

1. Don't do change of institutions until your UTME result has been released. This will let you make the right choice based on your performance in UTME. Rushing to make change of courses or institutions now may limit your chances to do more changes if you're not favoured by one school/course.
2. Some schools may also give you another course during admission time, which you will have to change to on the JAMB portal. If you have exhausted your two chances for change of institutions/courses, you may forfeit the admission.
3. Also note that change of courses and institutions go together. If you change institution only the first time, you have used one chance. And if you change course again, you've used up your two chances. Hence, you won't be able to change institutions or courses again. This equally applies to you if you do change of institutions twice, you won't be able to change courses again.
4. For change of Name, you may need to take the JAMB indemnity form to be printed after, to JAMB office nearest to you together with your birth certificate or court affidavit (showing the correct names and order). You will submit it to the office and wait for a message in your email after the changes had been effected by JAMB. Or you can keep checking your result to see if the changes had reflected.
5. Change of local government/state may require you to submit the JAMB indemnity form plus your local government Identification form, certificate or document.
6. Correction of Subjects can only be done before JAMB UTME so that they can update your subjects combination before your exams schedule.

How to Do Correction of Data: Change of Names, Date of Birth, Subjects Combination, Institutions/Courses, State/LGA, Sex etc

3. On your dashboard, locate 2018 UTME Registration Data Correction.
4. Follow other instructions that follow and make payment on the Remita platform.
5. After payment, you'll be redirected to the options available for change. Select the one you want to change and complete the registration.
6. Print confirmation print-out if need be.

What to Consider before change your Institutions/courses

It’s a challenge for parents and students every year while trying to change institutions and courses during JAMB change of institutions/courses exercise.

It gets more frustrated when you don’t know the cut off mark your proposed school will use in the current admission year. This issue of cut-off mark is a general concern as JAMB refuses to announce cut-of mark until late time.

But this has changed since 2017 when the board left the change of institutions and course exercise opened throughout the admission period even after they had announced the cut off marks and schools were selling their post UTME forms.

It's beveled that the same will continue into the future. This is one of the reasons you don't need to rush into doing changes for now. You can take your time but be moderate in your waiting.

Hence, what majority of schools are waiting for before selling their admission screening forms and post UTME is JAMB’s announcement of national cut-off mark.

Here are the issues with change of institutions/courses.

Students want to know the cut-off mark that schools will require for UTME in the current admission year before deciding whether to change to them or from them.

However, no students can. This is because such schools will not announce cut-off mark so far JAMB has not announced national cutoff mark.

So, how do students go around this dilemma? Speculation!

UPDATE: JAMB doesn't close change of institutions within short time again. They don't even close it until your proposed schools had completed their post UTMEs or admission activities for the year. Hence, you may need to wait enough before doing change of institutions. You will have enough time to make the right decisions.

In most cases, candidates search through the net to see if schools have announced cut-off marks. And all they will see is the cut-off marks the schools used in the previous admission year.

Most bloggers will speculate based on the previous year cut-off marks and advise students to act based on this. What they will not tell the hungry candidates is that, they are only speculating and that candidates should use their discretions.

The benchmark is this, in most cases, schools consider their previous year cut off mark in the present year admission. Yet, some schools’ policies may change about cut off marsk, thereby reduce or increase figure.

Special Cases About Change of Institutions/Courses

FUNAAB had once disappointed students. The school was used to 180 and above in the previous years. And after candidates had changed to them in 2014, the school announced 200 and above letting down unsuspecting students with hope of gaining admission.

Schools including UNILAG, OAU, UNIBEN and some other primer universities have been known for 200 and above cut off marks from time. Irrespective of the cut-off mark announced by JAMB, these schools will not just accept anything less than 200.

Schools like UNILORIN have the culture of drawing different cut-off marks for different courses. What is well known about them is that, they use their cut-off marks based on population that chose each course. Hence, if you chose a more competitive course, expect something higher like 210 and above. And if you go for something not that competitive, you can be lucky with just 180 and above.

Some schools can be madly in love with JAMB cut-off mark. Federal Poly Ede and Offa fall to this category. They wait patiently for JAMB to talk. If JAMB says 150 and above for polytechnics, that is what they consider too. This, they followed in the last years. But in the year 2016 when JAMB said 180 and above for polytechnics and college of education, these two schools only accepted 150 and above. And Federal Poly Ado accepted 170 and above.

The Federal Polytechnic Ede is well known for only considering candidates who choose them as the first choice and I think the Federal Poly Off has joined this league last in year 2016.

Some schools hide under their infancy to accept less than 150 for admission. These schools include the Oke Ogun Poly Saki, Oyo State, Iparapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo state and some other private polytechnics and monotechnics around the country.

The benchmark here is that, majority of Federal institutions will like to comply with JAMB’s directive on cut-off marks. But state and private institutions may follow their own suits.

So, what do you do now?

Like I said earlier, you can speculate. You just have to be wise with your speculation. However, you don't need to rush at this any longer since JAMB will not close change of institutions even after the year admission ends. So you can wait to see the school that may likely give you admission before you change.

  1. If you choose SPECULATION, and you score 200 and above, you can choose any federal institutions. You can just try to go for less competitive course if your score is less than 250. This is because more people with high scores are waiting to compete with you.
  2. If you score less than 200, you can consider changing to any of the newly created federal universities. These schools are still young and they need students to fill their departments. For example, the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Nigerian Defence Academy, Nigerian Police Academy etc.
  3. States universities can be the right choice if you are under 200. States can be expensive and that’s why most people don’t consider them. This will be an advantage for you if you can change to them. Don’t forget, less than 200 may not be strong enough to compete for some courses though. So be wise. Osun State University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ekiti State University, Imo State University, Edo State University etc are few of such state institutions you can consider.
  4. The same holds for polytechnics and colleges of education. Federal polytechnics and colleges can be so selective. Try considering state counterparts and do search for some schools with hiding around you. They are around you and they want to accommodate you. Have you heard of Federal College of Agriculture Moore Plantation, Ibadan, College of Agriculture, Igboora Oyo State, Federal College of Agriculture, Ondo State, College of Medical Sciences, Ondo etc.

Stop wasting your time, talk to professionals on your next steps and avoid following the crowd.

Best of luck!

After Npower physical verification, What Next?

This is the question several preselected applicants in the 2017 round of Npower scheme had been asking on the body’s official twitter handle. The preselected 2016 N-build applicants are equally concerned about what the next course of action is.
N-power has initially made it clear that not all the 300,000 applicants shortlisted will be eventually selected for the jobs. Some applicants will be disqualified because of certain irregularities including; over-age, lack of claimed qualifications/credentials and the likes. And the support team has promised applicants on the waiting list to be ready as replacement for such disqualified applicants.

Meanwhile, the support team has said the verified applicants to wait for the “next communication” or update from them and avoid reading from unofficial sources.
It should be noted that the physical verification which was initially slated to end December 14, has been extended until further notice. Hence, pre-selected candidates can still visit thei…
